Brief description of the legal entity
With over 37,000 students and more than 7,000 employees, the University of Copenhagen (UCPH) is the largest institution of research and education in Denmark. The University offers more than 200 study programmes in health sciences, humanities, law, life sciences, pharma-ceutical sciences, science, social sciences and theology. The Department of Media, Cognition and Communication is part of the Faculty of Humanities. The department comprises four sections: Education, Film and Media Studies, Philosophy, and Rhetoric, each of which conducts research and offers study programmes at all academic levels. The department aims to contribute to the international scholarly discussion in each of its fields at the highest level possible, and to that end participates in several international networks at both the researcher and student level.
Short profile of the team members
Henrik Søndergaard, the scientist in charge of the research team of the University of Copenhagen, holds a PhD in Media Studies from the University of Copenhagen as well as a Master’s degree in Literature. He is Associate Professor at the Department of Media, Cognition and Communication, where he was the Director of Studies until recently. Moreover, he is appointed a member of the Radio and Television Board, the Danish Independent Regulatory Authority for radio and television. He has been head of department and also head of the Danish Association of Media Researchers and head of the Council for Public Service Broadcasting. He has participated in several research projects, i.e. MODINET (Media and democracy in the network society), Global Media Cultures and Programming within Nordic Public Service Broadcasting. He has published extensively on Danish and Scandinavian broadcasting systems, on media regulation and media policy as well as media history and audience research. His main focus has been on public service broadcasting and programming strategies within public service media. In this area he has published several books and articles.

Rasmus Helles holds a PhD in Media Studies at the University of Copenhagen and holds, since 2009, a position as Assistant Professor at the Department of Media, Cognition and Communication at the University of Copenhagen. He has participated in the research project MODINET and has in particular been working with ‘new’ digital media, media use and democracy. He has published a number of articles on digital media, web communication and medium theory.

Giuseppe Mazziotti holds a Doctor of Jurisprudence cum laude degree from the University of Perugia, as well as a Master of Research and a PhD in Law from the European University Institute (Florence). He has published extensively in the fields of EU copyright law, competition law and information technology law, and has conducted research as Visiting Scholar at the University of California at Berkeley. He also holds master’s degrees in Clarinet Performance and Chamber Music from the Perugia Music Academy. He is a member of the working group of Creative Commons-Italy and has worked as consultant for the SeLiLi (Servizio Licenze Libere) project, led by the Politecnico di Torino. He has also advised the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Italian Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities in various projects concerning intellectual property law (e.g. ‘European Union Public Licence’; ‘Collecting Societies and Cultural Diversity in the Music Sector’; ‘Athena’; and ‘Europeana’). He has practised law with Nunziante Magrone in Rome as counsel and was a founder of the Musikethos.org project. He is Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Copenhagen, where he also acts as local team leader of the EU-funded research project LAPSI (Legal Aspects of Public Sector Information).
